Allegory of the Cave - Plato

The image really helped to show the exact set up of how the story was. Especially if this was the first time reading this story, it does not explain very well how it is set up. Also how the people who had “fetters” saw the shadows and automatically believed what they were told the shadows were and the sounds they made.
I think the story might have a thorough explanation but it was very hard to follow it due to the style of writing. In addition, it is difficult to follow the style because of all of the go back and forth between Plato and Socrates. I definitely had to read it through a few times to fully understand and just plain “get” what they were not only talking about, but also what they were trying to explain.
I think that if you lived your whole life thinking one way because of what people told you were true and then all of a sudden finding out that they were lying; well that would be devastating. You would not know from then on what is so called “real” and what is so called “fake.” You would question everything from that point on. It would be difficult because you would want to go back and explain to the people you knew that it was all fake and they would not believe you. I think that would be very frustrating. Any one can relate to this story because everyone has gone through an experience where someone lied to you and you found out. It hurts and confuses you. Especially in this day in age everyone is pretty deceitful this is sad to say. I think it is a rare thing when you find someone who is still honest. Even at my job, at the Information Desk in University Union, people can turn in lost and found. The other day someone turned in a brand new 80 GB Ipod. That was so surprising, anyone could have taken it and this person turned it in.
